Recently, North Star Recycling was invited to attend the GBRC 2025 SMM Battery Recycling and Circular Industry Conference, organized by Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) and held at the Sheraton Ningbo Donggang, where it was honored with the SMM ‘Golden Pool Cup’ Outstanding Contribution Award for China’s Battery Recycling Equipment.

Amid the global energy structure’s rapid shift toward a green, low-carbon transition, lead-acid batteries and lithium batteries – as key enablers of transport electrification and scaled energy storage – are seeing their production and end-of-life volumes grow exponentially. It is projected that China’s retired power-battery volume will exceed 500,000 tonnes in 2025, while annual lead-acid battery scrap will surpass 4 million tonnes. Without efficient, eco-friendly resource circularization, massive releases of heavy metals and electrolyte could trigger a severe ecological crisis.
At the same time, international policies such as the EU New Battery Regulation and the U.S. IRA Act are exerting strong pressure, requiring lithium-recovery rates above 80% by 2030 and full-process carbon-footprint transparency, while more than 500 domestic equipment firms remain trapped in low-end price wars, with intelligence and standardization seriously lagging and top players holding less than 15% market share. Behind the influx of speculative capital lies a reality of chaotic technology roadmaps and weak international competitiveness: European and U.S. companies are seizing the discourse with disruptive technologies such as hydrogen-based reduction and dry separation, while Chinese equipment makers struggle under the double squeeze of ‘green trade barriers’ and ‘technology chokepoints.’
At this critical juncture when the industry urgently needs a breakthrough, North Star Recycling – thanks to its cutting-edge technological innovation in the battery-recycling equipment field, excellent industrialization results, and active promotion of industry standards – was honored to receive the ‘Golden Pool Cup’ Outstanding Contribution Award for China’s Battery Recycling Equipment, presented by SMM!
